Beijing on the rise

OK, an article to break some clichés. Beijing is becoming hype. Shanghai, we are not scared of you anymore. No complex! Beijing is surprising me, day after day.

A totally new crowd is emerging. A crowd that some blogs already started to spot for a while (see Beijing Stylites). Artsy, independent, snazzy, tech savvy, into vintage clothes and sensitive to issues such as sustainability and health.

Independent designers are being curated by Nuandao, amazing illustrators such as Ray雷磊 are getting more and more famous and these are just some examples.

Away from what Beijing was a few years ago, the scene is here. Concerts halls organize reggae nights and get Chad Valley the next day.  A melting pot that makes Beijing a Capital, but not only for China, but for anyone who seeks raw and simple Art, in every sense of the word.

Come and see for yourself.

Miscellaneous

Use your old teddy bears to make the smoothest carpets in the world.

Filippo Minelli makes us dream with disturbing photographs of smoke in the winter. Using handmade smoke bombs he captures the moment, this ephemeral moment when everything bursts (anger, fear, love) and then vanishes away. Beautiful.

But does it float

China in color

Serge Vargassoff took these color pictures in the 20′s when he decided to move there, aged 20 to become a professional photographer. Rarities, these photographs are a real present from the past.

Pictures speak for themselves.
